Why You Should Create Your Own Images for Your Blog Posts

inspiredtowrite

Creating your own images for your blog gets around many issues: sourcing relevant images, finding out whether you have the legal right to use them, and dealing with copyright problems if you have been misled into thinking you have the right to use the images.

You bypass all of these problems at once, but the main problem most people have that leads them to illegally source images from others is this: they don’t know how to do it.

Luckily, creating your own images is actually relatively easy, and if you do it right, it comes with many advantages. Here are some of the benefits of creating your own images to publish online.

Branding purposes: create series and a “look”

If you’re trying to establish yourself online, you can easily create a “look” for your posts by selecting certain photos and images you have created. You can brand images by putting them in the same color frame, standardizing a text caption style, or using a similar color scheme, for example. If you have an unusual business name, you can play on the name by publishing images that relate to your business name.

Copyright purposes: avoid legal problems

The worst nightmare of many small business owners is that they get into legal trouble. Photographers are tired of having their work stolen and resold by others or simply ripped off by people who use Google Image Search to find their images and repost them.

Increasingly, they take a no-tolerance policy like you might if someone tried to copy and republish your website. This means you may end up paying a steep fine for usage of your image, or you could get taken to court (where you will probably lose, even if you weren’t aware that the images weren’t copyright-free).

Social media purposes: create a presence online

One of the best ways to enhance posts that you’re sharing on Facebook and other social media is to include an image. Facebook will preview the image when you link to a page, and you can get floods of traffic if you concentrate on Pinterest marketing.

You will need a high-speed service, which you can find online on a site such as clearwirelessinternetdeals.com if you are going to be uploading a lot of images, but the advantages of sharing your own images include a strong social media presence. People will want to be associated with those creating unique content rather than using the same few stock photos all the time.

Creating your own images for blog posts overcomes problems such as inconsistent style and appearance, copyright problems, and not having any unique hook to draw people in through social media. This is well worth a little time invested into learning the functions of your camera, the basics of photo composition, and so on.

Over time, you will improve and you can always go back and change the images associated with certain blog posts, so don’t let a lack of experience now stop you from publishing your own images. Everyone has to start somewhere, after all!

  8. Hello Jessica,

I really agree with you, it’s so annoying when people use your work without your consent. Some of the texts I wrote for a website have been used a hundred times by other webmaster (well, didn’t serv them, as Panda filtered their pages in SERP). But for pictures or photos it’s far worse, as Google cannot check if the pics have been used somewhere else. The main issue here, I guess, is time : it takes a lot of time to create a good pictures for an article. Maybe it can be improved by working with someone else, for that. What do you think ?

  9. Jessica, creating one’s images is such a great idea but sometimes people do not have the time to make them which leaves the option of either buying or asking permission to use them.

  11. The greatest advantage for me when it comes to placing my own pictures on my blogs is how effective they are when I post them to Pinterest. This alone makes it much more worthwhile to take your own picture. Also, I have noticed better returns for my SEO efforts when I use original picture on my blogs. I can’t explain it but suffice to say, Google knows what they are doing!

  19. I am agree with your view Jessica. any one can sue you for copy write if you are using illegal images for your blog. However it doesn’t really matter for small blog but if you have long term plans for blogging then its better to use your own images/purchased images or if you still want to use those images then do give proper credit to the owner of these images. Anyways thanks for this great write up.
