Link building is one of the most important aspects of your website’s SEO campaign, and makes a huge difference in your ranking against your competitors. It’s like this. If there are two identical websites in age, size, industry and content, how does a search engine rank one site over the other? With backlinks.

Backlinks are links from other sites to yours, which are also considered as votes of confidence. Typically, when a site visitor likes to share info on a site they consider useful or informative, they usually provide links back to their own website.

Types of links:

However, not all links are created equally, and some are more valued and coveted than others.

Reciprocal links—links between two sites that will ensure mutual traffic. Your site has automatically generated reciprocal links, as it is natural for the internet to link web pages together. These kinds of links are okay as long as they are relevant for your users and not excessive.

Blog comment links—these comments are used to try to improve the performance of a site in the SERPs. Links from blog comments do not have much strength, though, so it should be used sparingly. There are many webmasters who are aware of blog comment links and therefore add the “no follow” attribute to ensure that no strength is passed. Although it is important to note that when you leave a comment on a blog post it helps both you and the blog owner.

Links from directories—these are useful to search engines as these links allow them to fully grasp your market area. The things you need to look for are authority, ability to change the anchor text, and the page ranking.

Article submissions—this involves writing original and unique articles that are related to your business online. This will allow you to put in an author field that has contextual links to actually promote your website. The key to this is to find the best services for article submission in the industry you are in, as this can provide a huge traffic for a small cost.

Also, if your articles are useful and informative, this will help build the potential customers’ trust in your site.

Do you have a list of good services for article submission?

I do not currently have a list. But, there are plenty out there. Personally, I like to focus on one or two sites and avoid duplicate content. I would suggest writing for HubPages and Suite 101!
