This month's Creativity Portal's writing prompt could not have been more appropriate. I read this quote today and thought it was perfect considering my latest endeavor - creating a new blog.
An idea can take on a life of its own. It's okay to see where it leads.
This weekend I decided to jump in feet first (maybe head first) and create a new blog, adding to my already full writing plate. My new blog is titled Love Musings, Reflections on Love and Relationships. I have always wanted to have a blog about dating and love and all that. I guess my friends and I talk about it enough, why not post some of these musings to the world? I have gathered quite the insight on all of this relationship stuff over the years.
The spawning of the idea for a new blog lead to a domain search. A lot of the domains with cool titles like Love Bytes and Love and Stuff were taken, of course. Then, to keep it general, how about Love Thoughts, but with a semantic spin, Love Musings? Sounds good. This domain was available, so I bought it. This domain name then lead to designing a new blog. What next?
Steps to Follow When Starting a Blog
I found this (again perfectly timed) post by Ink Rebels on 5 Steps to Follow When Starting A Blog. I came upon it AFTER I created the blog, but it was still helpful to read. Turns out, I followed most of the steps in there pretty closely. I would recommend checking the post out if you are considering a new blog.
After going through all the latest growing pains from switching Inspired to Write from Blogger to WordPress, I went about creating the new blog, Love Musings, in a completely different way than when I began my Inspired to Write blog (way back when it was called juliesjourneys.blogspot.com). I began with WordPress and then looked for customizable themes. I went with Atahualpa. Strange name, but a lot of customization options and a support community. Note: I did strongly consider buying the Developer's Version of the Thesis Theme, but decided to hold off on that. It is a viable option for the future though!
After taking all the steps to get the site going-signing up on my host site, downloading WordPress, etc-I began making the adjustments to the design. At this point, it is still a work in progress.
Idea Turned to Action
Then, I wrote a post. Then, another post.
Love Musings is now officially online. I have no clue where this is going to lead. It started as an idea, now I just have to see if the idea spawns into a successful blog! The idea will hopefully take on a life of its own. It is the chance I have to take. Ideas are great, but take on life when acted upon.
Some Buddha quote I read summed it up: An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea.
Sometimes, that is all you can do. Jump in! It was another creative endeavor, but it is what I do. I write.
