Printing Memorable Writing and Photos into a Book

by Julie McElroy on January 11, 2010

While the first goal will probably be a popular goal among many bloggers and one that I may revisit each year, this second goal results in a final product. Therefore, once I achieve this goal, I can check it off my list! This may be a goal of other writers, tailored to their needs, but mine is very specific to me.

Goal Number Two:
By February 1st, have my European Vacation book ready to print.

This goal is something I have been wanting to do since I returned from my European adventure back in November of 2007. Well, now that it is already 2010, maybe I should get on it! I started putting this book together after seeing someone's else vacation photo book. She used a site called Blurb.com to put together a book with pictures and text on her 10 day trip to London and Paris. Well, my trip was 10 WEEKS and I went to NINE COUNTRIES! So, it will be a bit longer...

I started working on it in December and realized it would take quite some time to put together. I guess it is almost like an electronic photo album. This book was inspired by the travel blog I kept during my visit to the continent in the fall of 2007. I always wanted to print that blog with the pictures included, but with all the hustle and bustle of school, etc., it was put on the back burner.

I actually did create a PDF version using the Travel Blog website, but the book did not look as I wanted it. This time around, I decided I would make it look professional and interesting so that friends and family would pick it up and actually look through it.

Now, the Blurb site allows you to create any book you want, you do not have to even include pictures. You can self-publish a meaningful blog or any other piece of writing. However, this site is designed to create books that include photos. This is not a site to be used for mass production publication of novels, it is more like bookmaking software. However, you can share your book and even sell it on this site.

Bottom line, if you have something you want to print in a book to share or place on your coffee table, Blurb is a good site to use.

Happy Book Making!
