In spirit of a new year and a fresh start, creating a list of goals seems like an appropriate task. One overarching goal for me this year is to get back into writing. Since I have completed my formal education, I will have more time to devote to my writing.
To get back into writing mode, a great first step is to write a list of writing goals to help me stay focused and get back on track. I wrote a post almost a year ago about making sure that you goals are SMART. This means that your goals should be:
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Relevant
Timebound
This list below covers most of those, although some may not be timebound. That's okay. This is a start and taking the first step is a step in the right direction.
- Write twice weekly in my blog.
- By February 1st, have my European Vacation book ready to print.
- Respond to at least 90% of the comments on my blog. (measurable!)
- Read other blogs weekly to find inspiration.
- Comment and interact with other bloggers / writers weekly.
- By March 1st, start writing travel articles for Suite 101 and have 30 articles by Dec. 1st.
- Read more!! Read books or stories that are meaningful and provide inspiration.
- JOURNAL! JOURNAL! JOURNAL! Keep a writing journal to jot down thoughts and ideas and write in it at least 4 times a week!
- Allow short posts.
- Don't worry about being a perfectionist!
This is a good list to start and most of these goals fulfill at least the majority of the SMART rule! I will get into more detail about each of these goals in later posts. For now, happy writing!!
