I have recently come across a website about an author by the name of Julia Cameron. She has written thirty books, including The Right to Write. Julia has also had a career as a playwright and a filmmaker. Her website, The Artist’s Way is a concept that allows the creative mind to be rediscovered.
She does this with a 12 week program that will help unblock the creative self. As part of this process, she suggests two basic exercises or tools, the “Morning Pages” and the “Artist’s Dates.”
The Morning Pages are “three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning.” This writing is not censored or written for anyone except yourself.
The Artist’s Date comes once a week. This is time dedicated to your creative child and spent in solitude. It is a time of self-discovery and maybe the opportunity to answer some of the questions that are derived from your Morning Pages.
As I read through the pages on Julia’s website, I am intrigued and want to try her program. Well, someday. I think I will start with one of her books. But, this may be a perfect time for you to discover and recover your creative self.
At least, check out her website. You never know what inspiration you may find there.
